Get your photos in the press - 10 Top tips

A news story is more likely to be published if it is accompanied by a high quality, relevant, interesting photograph.

  1. Always use a professional photographer if you can afford one - if not, learn to take really professional shots with big impact
  2. Look at newspapers for examples of good and bad photographs
  3. Include your organisation’s branding
  4. Take photographs of people, especially with equipment
  5. Don't send files bigger than 1Megabyte to the press
  6. Take landscape and portrait shaped pictures
  7. Take photos outside, but avoid glaring sunlight
  8. Use flash only if you can avoid redeye
  9. Quality for publication should be at least 300dpi
  10. Don't assume you can computer-manipulate the shot later - it’s much better to shoot it right in the first place.
