Get your photos in the press - 10 Top tips
A news story is more likely to be published if it is accompanied by a high quality, relevant, interesting photograph.
- Always use a professional photographer if you can afford one - if not, learn to take really professional shots with big impact
- Look at newspapers for examples of good and bad photographs
- Include your organisation’s branding
- Take photographs of people, especially with equipment
- Don't send files bigger than 1Megabyte to the press
- Take landscape and portrait shaped pictures
- Take photos outside, but avoid glaring sunlight
- Use flash only if you can avoid redeye
- Quality for publication should be at least 300dpi
- Don't assume you can computer-manipulate the shot later - it’s much better to shoot it right in the first place.
